UPDATE: (late Oct 2026) If you can’t find it I found out why. As per my local TJ’s Captain: The soap is Out Of Stock and worse marked “NOT ORDERABLE”. He said this means they lost the supplier, and are looking for a new supplier. Ugh! So while it’s not been “discontinued” (ie, fatally gone forever) until they can find a replacement, it’s not available.

The other (fancier) bars of soap I saw on the shelf are $3.99 for a single bigger bar.

RAVE 

I imagine I’m what you would call a “typical male” as far as soap goes, meaning I am not terribly picky. I recall I used to buy my soap at the dollar store, years ago, a brand called Dalan, which back then was actually $1 for 3 bars (!) I liked and as far as I was concerned, it was fine.

On the other hand, we have my wife, who buys “her soap” (that what she calls it) at fancy stores like L’Occitane and the like. You know the kind of upscale beauty shops where a bar of soap can cost $10? “Her soap” is for her only, of course.

If I even touch her bar of soap, she will yell at me, “Don’t touch my soap; its for my face, its expensive, and its way too good for you”. Thanks, sweetie!

So shopping at Trader Joe’s I noticed they sell this soap in their Health and Beauty section: Trader Joe’s Oatmeal and Honey Soap, “Pure vegetable soap”. I can even smell it a bit through the package. It smelled nice.

Cost? OMG, this decent looking soap goes for only$1.50 for 2 good size bars : Joe, that sounds like my kind of deal. (note: since i first wrote this it went up to $1.99).

The low down when I tried it?

Here’s my honest review. I liked this soap a lot. It’s quite good, in fact, for it’s price, I would call this a terrific bargain, for a quality bar of soap good for body and face at a buck per bar.

It doesn’t have any strong added artificial aromas. To me this soap has a nice natural smell. You can see little flecks of oatmeal in it, and it made lots and lots of lather in the shower. My skin does feel better, less dry? We know oatmeal is one of the best things for skin, incredibly soothing (see Aveeno brand for instance).

I mentioned how good this smells but it is worth repeating as I really like the “natural” smell.

It’s good for hands, face, body, everything. This soap doesn’t melt too fast either, it lasts fairly well.

OK so I now get it, yes good soap is important. And one can easily say this decent soap is well worth it’s low price. Best thing is that my wife actually likes this soap. Sure she still loves her $10 L’Occitane soap but now keeps that solely for her face. I’m still not allowed to touch it of course but at least we can actually now agree that we can buy this “regular” soap for everyday use, and this is whats in our shower soap dish now. We both use it.

Price has increased since this was written… now $1.99. Still that’s a buck a bar. Not bad.

So here is one more TJ’s item I tried once and immediately said, “Wow this is an great product that I’m going to buy all the time!”*.

*How many times do Trader Joe products have that effect on you? There’s a reason. They have great buyers whose sole job is to scour the world for good products for Trader Joe’s.“
