Here’s my honest review of Trader Joe’s KEY LIME PIE, sold in the frozen section.
While I thought this pie was tasty and has that great key lime flavor, unfortunately the level of sugar in this is through the roof! The pie is just crazy sweet! My wife tasted it and immediately made a face and complained about how overly sweet it is. She could barely eat hers. Strong tea with it helped to get a small piece down.
I tried to “fix” the sweetness level to the extent we are able. I thought let me try putting a dollop of plain GREEK YOGURT on top to cut it’s sweetness a bit. That did help to balance things out with the sourness of the yogurt countering some of the sweetness. If you do buy this, be sure to have some plain Greek yogurt, or unsweetened whipped cream on hand. It will still be sweet but more tolerable.
IF they could cut down the sugar (which is a whopping 39 gram per serving) I would like this. As it is, I can just give this a MEH or B- for effort.

Key Lime Pie is not easy to get right. You need lots of real key lime in perfect ratio to sweetened condensed milk that is a main ingredient, to balance out the sweetness.
I’ve had ( and love) one of the best key lime pies out there – STEVE’S KEY LIME PIE. which is pretty famous, in the NY area. It’s actually made in Red Hook, Brooklyn and they sell it right there too at the factory (fun visit too).
Steve’s Key Lime pie is amazing, nowhere near as sweet as Trader Joe’s version. It has the citrus to sugar balanced correctly. I’m sure it’s probably because they add more key lime, which is an expensive ingredient. Of course it costs a LOT more than this one (which is only six bucks) So while this is a good deal, and kind of tasty, its just way too sweet. You can try to fix it up a bit with some yogurt, which does help make it more palatable. Maybe even a squirt of lime or lemon?

Ditto.
(An unusual reaction to a TJ’s dessert for me. LOL)
