UPDATED 2024 – FRENCH BUTTER IS BACK!!!
(July 29, 2022) Trader Joes’s great FRENCH CULTURED BUTTER was M.I.A. on the shelves for some time recently. Today I saw it back on the shelf (at NYC, 72 St TJ’s). Seeing it made my day. TJ’s French Cultured Butter is beloved by probably thousands of devoted Trader Joe’s shoppers. Many readers wrote in to the Comments, that the butter had been Discontinued.
I do have a feeling TJ’s has been having serious supply side and pricing issues like every other store, and perhaps especially now with their international products which are probably even more tricky to source. So while I am happy to see some on the shelves here, I find it a bit troubling they didn’t bother to put out a sign for the French butter. So fingers crossed its back, and will stay for good. Please let us know in Comments if it comes back in your local TJ’s and location.
The Irish Kerrygold butter has been in steady supply on the shelves, and that is also a good premium butter. It may be the only one TJ’s stocks eventually.
UPDATE: Aug 2022 – The French butter appearance seems to have been temporary; Its a Cat and Mouse game. It was all gone for awhile. Then a few weeks later I saw the French butter on the shelf still with no signs for it, so its a bit of a mystery and maybe they just can’t get it in a steady supply. To Be Continued folks….
Update: Sept 2022 (its been hit or miss, lately miss. Not on shelf today. I think they’ve just been putting all the stock out as it lasts until it’s exhausted?)
Update: Oct. 2022 – Well, the French Butter seems now totally gone from the shelves along with the Kiwi butter (double sigh)
In the imported premium butter category TJs offers one now – Kerrygold Irish Butter. Which is good. Still I liked the French Cultured butter so much. C’est la vie, mes amis!

Haven’t seen it back in Santa Fe, NM, yet. Regular Sunday morning shopping, tomorrow. I’ll look as usual. Kerrygold gets too soft in my butter bell. Almost pourable. TJ’s was perfect texture as well as favor.

I asked the manager at the Culver City TJ’s and he said it’s discontinued. I’m speechless and ticked off. I’m sick of this crap, getting rid of the good and replacing items with junk. Go figure!!!

Kerrygold Irish Butter. Arguably not quite the level of our dearly departed French Cultured Butter but the Kerrygold sweet or salted is definitely a Premium butter.

I too am tired of the trendy changes at Trader Joes. I have shopped Trader Joes since the grocery strike in 2003 in Southern CA. But lately instead of healthy organic it seems they are phasing out basics and replacing with Soy Based everything, too many specialty items and prepackaged produce that lasts only a few days. No one seems to understand even non meat products can be processed and complete garbage. Every week I buy less than the week than before.

NOOOOO!
They say is discontinued, again?
WHY they play with our Health and taste senses so cruelly?
The other butter options they trading and been pushing since a year, are more commercial and available everywhere else (=TJ’s will LOSE many THOUSAND$$$$$, as anyone can pick them up elsewhere not at their stores)
And frankly, quality wise a step down as their own brand was much more consistent AND CREAMY, not watery like the others, nor artificially colored to appear more yellowy. Really Quality went down the drain with this office move to promote junk

Shame! You discontinued chocolate covered ginger, but left the other flavors. Drop the coffee bean ones and return to ginger, please.

I fully understand that the space at TJs is limited and the company must “turn” items in order to keep things “fresh “ …. Here’s my beef : I love TJs Dark Rye Sourdough Bread for the quality of ingredients , taste and the health benefits . It’s simply the best bread you can buy at ANY grocery store in America
… and , someone made STUPID decision to discontinue selling it !! I am totally appalled and needless to say I can’t find that bread anywhere else . Did I say I am diabetic and this bread was the only bread that is safe for me to eat .
Thanks to the Trader Joe’s “Brain Trust” for being ……

Not in stock in West LA stores. Can we find the Cultured BUTTER from Brittany under some other label or distributor? Hard to believe TJ was this producers only outlet.

I miss the cultured butter. I am surprised that trader joes is discontinuing healthy items for now soy based prepackaged foods. Especially when soy in ISA is nearly 100% genetically modified crop. I am really disappointed with the choices made by trader Joe’s in discontinuing a healthy food like it’s cultured butter for GM foods. Bummer! I know I will be visiting the store a lot less now as will my friends.

Right with you all. There are only a few items I buy now from TJ’s, and that Brittany cultured butter was top of the list and the best butter I’d ever tasted. If anyone finds a source for it, let us know!
The veggies are pathetic – I am lucky if they last three days, so I rarely buy them. And won’t buy their fruit and vegetable in plastic containers – TJ’s has really led the way in packaging every fruit and veggie possible in plastic over the last decade or so. All this hoo ha over the fact that they will now phase out the plastic over what? the next decade? – when they were a major overuser. It pains me to see mushrooms in plastic boxes, for instance, so mindless.

I loved this butter and was told by the manager in my store, Newport News, VA that it was discontinued. Much better than Kerrygold, even if my friends disagree. I feel in love with Brittany butter when my wife and I visited that part of France in 2015. Hope they bring it back.

This very good butter is sadly missed. So frustrating that TJ’s doesn’t endeavor to keep good solid products like this on their shelves.
Thanks for you post; I’ve just discovered your blog and will be exploring it further.
I’ve just started a new series on my otherwise movie blog called Trader Joe’s No More. The first of these posts: https://markkadams.wordpress.com/2022/12/07/trader-joes-no-more-christmas-treats/
