FROZEN – GREAT FOR SMOOTHIES
“Trader Joe’s Wild Boreal Blueberries are little blue gems grown with absolutely no pesticides in Quebec’s Boreal forest region. The Boreal is a collection of protected lands that spreads across Canada…. The fruit grown in the Quebec Boreal thrives on the healthy soil conditions and unique climate of the region. The sweet tart flavor of these wild blueberries is unmatched. Try them for yourself in everything from cereal, muffins, cakes, smoothies and ice cream. They really are wild”

We really liked these blueberries. They are something buy them all the time at Trader Joe’s as they are great to have in the freezer. Not only are these one of my favorite Trader Joe’s products, I hear they are favorites of TJ’s employees as well which is really how you know something is good.
These frozen wild blueberries from Canada are small but full of flavor. These will defrost pretty quickly at room temperature if you just take them out for 10 minutes or so. You could also run them under cold water for maybe 10 seconds in an pinch but I feel like that washes some flavor away. When defrosted you can use these just as you would use fresh berries. We use them in our bowls of cereal and yogurt or kefir, mix them into oatmeal, or put these on top of vanilla ice cream – a super yummy combo! These blueberries are great for making smoothies of course, in which case you can just pour them frozen right into your blender with your other ingredients. I’ve even made excellent blueberry jam from them, and of course they are great to use in baked goods, for example blueberry muffins or even pancakes! Topped with some maple syrup naturally.

They’re the best frozen blueberries I’ve ever bought. 🙂

I’m concerned, because as of July 2025, they changed the packaging label, and removed the “Free of Pesticides” claim from both the “front’ and back of the package.
I asked a gentleman at the courtesy counter “Why the Change?” and he took my name/phone# down on a notepad, and said he would email his buyer, to get more info.
I never heard back from them.
It’s concerning considering there has been governmental changes in the Boreal forest recently (in the news). Hopefully someone can get more info.

I tested the Boreal Blueberries that i mentioned previously in my Aug 2025 post (that they changed the packing label) and removed “Free of Pesticides” from front and back. And i was able to taste a difference. A chemical aftertaste. So i have stopped buying boreal blueberries (from July 2025 through Nov 2025), when for 1 week Trader Joes (to my surprise), restocked the original Boreal (Free of Pesticides) blueberries, and i immediately bought like 8 bags and went home, and was so happy– that same, familiar good, clean taste was back!!!
This only lasted about 1 week in mid November. Now they are back to the other boreal blueberries that have “free of pesticides” removed and the chemical aftertaste. Not sure what is happening… i did hear that because of bad weather (drought in 2025), that Canadian blueberries (Quebec/Boreal) suffered 74% reduction in harvest. So, maybe it’s just a low stock issue. Hoping that the original boreal blueberries will be back in 2026.
Still have yet to hear from someone at the store, officially why the change, and if it’s temporary. They teased us for 1 week in November, by bringing them back—now they’re gone again.
