(NEWS: May 2026) Was Out of Stock for weeks in my area (NYC). Was told they finally got shipments of it coming in. (Update2) June 1- Back in Stock today! However they did raise the price, to $3.29

This is a pretty Healthy Choice in Trader Joe’s cereal section

High Fiber. Low Fat. Low Sodium…

Fortified with 8 Vitamins + Iron

NINE GRAMS OF FIBER PER SERVING

ZERO CHOLESTEROL

What’s not to like?

Surely this is one of the healthiest cereal options you have shopping in Trader Joe’s cereal aisle.

TJ’s HIGH FIBER CEREAL is an easy way to get more dietary Fiber into your diet. It gives you 9 grams of dietary fiber per serving (2/3 cup) which is about 1/3 of the recommended daily amount.

As the name implies, HIGH FIBER CEREAL provides us with an easy way to get a good amount of dietary Fiber for breakfast. This comes from many different types of bran in it: wheat bran, corn bran and oat bran.

This may not win many taste awards, however I think it actually tastes OK. In fact once I got used to it, I now even like the taste of this which I would describe as tasting both “natural” and “healthy”without it tasting like you are eating twigs – even though it looks a bit like twigs!

Bran is typically stripped out of many cereals and grains we eat but that’s not the case with this. Here’s the ingredient list….

Ingredients: wheat bran, corn flour, corn bran, cane sugar, whole wheat, oat bran, whey, salt…… Fortified with vitamins plus iron (60% of the DVI for Iron).

My wife buys this cereal as she feels she needs even more fiber in her diet, though I think we eat pretty well in the fiber department. Still she says has trouble staying “regular” and that this High Fiber cereal helps! We like that. My wife buys this High Fiber Cereal mostly for her. Me, I usually buy granola mostly for myself. But I just use that as “topping” on top of this. HIGH FIBER CEREAL 9 grams fiber per serving. For contrast, my granola has about 5 grams.

Taste wise its OK, a bit neutral, not great but not bad. The texture is nice and crunchy. It looks like little brown strings or twigs. Sometimes there are clumps of them.

I imagine you are probably not eating just a bowl of this cereal with milk? Maybe like me, you are likely adding other things, besides milk or a similar substitute. Maybe a bit of Yogurt? Kefir? Fresh fruit, like perhaps some sliced bananas, berries, apples or other fresh fruits or maybe some dried fruits. Kefir…

So this is likely just one part of your breakfast bowl. That’s how I eat this and it tastes fine. I even put a sprinkle of granola on top of everything to make it a little tastier.

Also in the plus column: it’s low in calories, low in fat, low in sodium, and has ZERO cholesterol, plus this is low in Added Sugars, compared to almost any other cereal Trader Joe’s sells. So really compared to many other choices, this is the “healthy choice” in the Trader Joe’s cereal department. Maybe the healthiest cereal they sell besides Oatmeal.

It looks like little bits of twigs. I am pretty sure this cereal is extruded then baked. I am not too familiar with Nabisco’s FIBER ONE cereal but I think this is similar. I doubt anyone would say “this is the best cereal I ever tasted”. But you know what, its not bad. I think it tastes it’s OK. Fairly neutral in flavor, it is nice and crunchy. Its a bit naturally sweet.

Generally I myself use it like a topping, and put it on top of my breakfast mixture of chia seeds, fruit, yogurt and sometimes kefir. I sometimes add a little bit of granola on top of everything to improve it all.

If you want an easy way to add some extra fiber in your diet, this cereal is certainly an easy way to start in the morning getting your fiber.

(You can compare to FIBER ONE)

Other things I get from Trader Joe’s for breakfast that are high fiber are Steel Cut Oats. Chia Seeds……

Personally I have always liked the classic GRAPE NUTS cereal – which is also pretty high fiber, and I do prefer it to this however my wife prefers this cereal by far. She has brought boxes of this cereal home quite a few times now, which means she really likes it, and that it “works. Meaning keeps her system nice and regular! Just sayin’, if that’s what you are looking for too, this will probably be good for you as well! 😉

“the recommended daily amount of fiber is 28 grams per day” so this is just one part….

High Fiber Cereal $2.99 (14.5 oz) $3.29

So for two healthy cereal options from Trader Joe’s, I would recommend this as well as OATS (steel cut preferably) I buy both cereals for our house.

(PS One reader even Commented they use this cereal to bake bran muffins!)

“TALK ABOUT A POWERHOUSE”

These teeny tiny chia seeds truly are a superfood powerhouse. If you aren’t eating chia seeds already perhaps you should be. I eat some every morning.

No doubt you’ve heard about them. How they are a true superfood with lots of health benefits being benificial to heart health, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and more. Not too mention digestion and keeping you regular as they provide lots of soluble fiber.

These teeny blacks seeds are packed with protein, Omega 3‘s and other goodies, again especially fiber. When soaked in liquid the seeds both swell up and gel up absorbing twenty seven times their weight in water. By the way the chia seed gel smooths things in your digestive tract so can help keep you regular. Another benefit.

They are especially great for adding to smoothies, cereal, pancakes or drinks. They can be used as a natural thickener. The seeds are so tiny they have a tendency to go everywhere and I do mean everywhere, so be very careful when you use these. If you spill these, well they are a real pain to clean up. Get them wet and they stick to everything. So don’t wet them. If you do spill them just try to brush them or vacuum them up and good luck with that…!)

TIP: Careful handling them!! These tiny seeds can go everywhere in an instant if you are not very careful. Rather than using the bag they come in, I pour the seeds into a small glass jar and just use that (and a tiny scoop) as its much easier to handle, than opening and closing this bag all the time. I have spilled seeds many times and they are not easy to clean up as they are so tiny and when wet stick to everything.

I usually mix them into soy milk, oat milk or kefir. Leave them a few minutes to absorb the liquid. They will swell up in 5-10 minutes. Then I add them to my yogurt/kefir/soy milk liquid .( Don’t eat them without soaking them in liquid.)

TJ’s Chia Seeds (12 oz) $4.99. $5.49 $5.99, and actually went back down to 5.49 last time I got them)

PRODUCT OF PARAGUAY

Trader Joe’s sells a number of super food seeds including chia seeds, flax seeds, a mix of chia and flax, as well as hemp seeds. All of these are good for you and are things you can easily incorporate into your diet, daily, especially I think at breakfast where you can add 1 or 2 tablespoons into your cereal, yogurt or smoothie. Try CHIA SEED PUDDING; very easy and very good! (another one in link below)

Trader Joe’s carries a lot of “powerhouse seeds” like CHIA, FLAX and HEMP SEEDS. My Trader Joe’s has a “Smoothies Section” featuring all of these plus other products to make smoothies (protein powders, etc)
